Rooted amongst layered tumbled rock of Durell’s iconic Stone Flats Block presents challenges for the vines producing small clusters of the heritage ‘old wente’ clone famously known for concentration and power. Durell intersects uniquely by Sonoma’s three diverse micro-appellations, Sonoma Coast, Carneros, and Sonoma Valley. The variety of microclimates in the hillside coastal regions combined with ancient oceanic history makes this one of the most heralded sites for growing intense Chardonnay in Northern California.

94 – Vinous | The 2023 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard is generous and open-knit, with great focus to its layers of yellow plum, pear and iodine. A slight flicker of tropicality emerges with air. The 2023 impresses with its weight and density without any heaviness, especially notable in the absence of new oak.
