SECURE THE INAUGURAL ALLOCATION
The International Debut: Auteur Burgundy
The realization of a lifelong reverence—an uncharted detour from the rugged California coast to the historic limestone of the Côte de Nuits. In a landmark collaboration, we are proud to introduce the 2023 Auteur Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru. A micro-allocation from the smallest and most elusive Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, this wine launches our winemaking chapter in Burgundy. Faced with once-in-a-lifetime offerings from the most fiercely guarded parcels on the slope—a feat very few “outsiders” ever achieve in Burgundy—I was presented with a wine possessing the exact crystalline salinity and perfume that first triggered my passion 30 years ago. I simply couldn’t say no.
For me, this is a profound, almost spiritual homecoming. As the son of a Hungarian refugee, my journey carries a lineage of survival and the drive to capture a kindred philosophy alongside the world’s most genuine producers. We have folded these rare allocations into our portfolio to launch the Auteur Burgundy Project—selections that proudly stand side-by-side with our Sonoma Coast wines.
From Curation to Creation The Auteur Burgundy Project is a long-term commitment to the region’s most storied terroirs. Our 2023 and 2024 vintages represent a period of meticulous selection, aligned with the Auteur vision and executed in partnership with Manoël Bouchet. This is more than a debut—it’s a permanent bridge between our Sonoma roots and the soul of the Côte d’Or.
Starting with the Fall 2025 harvest, we transition from curation to creation—moving into full production under our own hand in Meursault alongside my Burgundian brother, Pierre-Henri Rougeot. Our permanent footprint in the Côte d’Or will draw from a portfolio of revered appellations, including: Gevrey-Chambertin, Meursault, Corton & Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet.
