THE DIRT!
What's the secret behind great fruit?
The dirt! Shea Vineyard's soil is characterized by shallow
sedimentary Willakenzie topsoil over fractured sandstone
subsoil. Willakenzie soils tend to display darker
fruit with concentrated blackberry and plum highlighted
with notes of earth, pepper and minerals. Shea Vineyards
consists of 140 dry farmed hillside acres located in Oregon's
new sub-appellation, Yamhill-Carlton. Yamhill-Carlton is
situated in a rainshadow where storms often miss, leaving
excellent dry conditions for Pinot Noir. Most of the Shea
Vineyard producers have achieved outstanding ratings (90
to 94 points in the Wine Spectator), they include such cult
producers of Sine Qua Non, Ken Wright and Beaux Freres.
Auteur has yet to be rated upon release.

THE JUICE
The Shea juice is famous! Shea Vineyard
is one of the most prestigious vineyards in New World Pinot
Noir, placing it squarely among the elite terroirs. Our
2004 Shea Pinot Noir is no exception to the highly rated
wines that are produced from this vineyard. The wine is
fantastically crisp with vibrant acidity and fleshy tannins.
Gingerly hand sorted, the juice was fermented with native
yeast using 20 per cent whole clusters to maintain the fresh
berry characters of the Shea fruit. A true beauty! While
drinking fresh in its youthful stage, the Shea will age
for years to come. Decanting recommended.
THE PALATE
Explosion of juicy blackberry and cherry
leads to the penetrating fragrance of lavender, sage, mineral
and berry pie. The palate is rich, supple and seductive
while remaining powerful and structured with a seamless
and continuous finish.
