MOMTASI VINEYARD
Established in 1998, this 190-acre south facing
vineyard sits in the foothills of Oregons new McMinnville
appellation. Farmed organically, the Nekia soils yield brooding
dark fruit with lively acidity and colossal tannin. Our block
was planted in 1998 with VSP, Dijon 115 clone. The Dijon clone
explodes with succulent and juicy aromas of black berry and cherry
then balances nicely with a structured mid-palate with a chewy
tannin finish.
VINIFICATION
Hand-picked at dawn on September 22nd of 2003,
the fruit was hand-sorted and transported by gravity to open top
tanks to cold soak. The juice was fermented with native yeast
for twelve days then left on skins for a four day post-fermentation
maceration to extract all the goodness the fruit had to offer.
Bottled unfiltered and unfined.
WINEMAKERS NOTES
Brooding and muscular, fleshy and lush with
scents of leather, blackberry, dried rose petals, wet stone and
blueberry. Semi-sweet chocolate tannins fold into black cherry,
pepper and raspberry compote.
