Auteur 2003 Hyland Vineyard
WILLAMETTE VALLEY OREGON PINOT NOIR
HYLAND VINEYARD
Sourced from one of the oldest vineyards in
Oregons Willamette Valley, Hyland is situated on a south
facing hillside at high elevation offering the essential crisp
microclimate necessary to create the brilliance and poise of this
Pinot Noir. The 2003 is a blend of self-rooted 33 year-old Pommard
and Coury clones that are farmed organically. The Pommard presents
the sensuous and velvety mouthfeel while the Coury (the suitcase
and mystery clone brought into Oregon by Charles Coury in
the early 1970s) brings the structure that makes this an age worthy
wine.
VINIFICATION
Hand-picked in the early mornings of September
30th through October 5th of 2003, the fruit was hand-sorted, transported
by gravity to open top fermenters and cold soaked for four days
to extract color and flavor. Fermented with native yeast over
twelve days and pressed at dryness to retain the fresh fruit characteristics
of the Hyland Vineyard. Bottled unfiltered and unfined.
WINEMAKERS NOTES
Savory mushroom, cinnamon stick and pepper
aromas unite black cherry pit, earth floor and wild strawberries
with a dense core of lush blackberry woven with violets and sandalwood.
Structured and balanced.
